Short-scale SS roundwounds heavier gauge recommendations needed

Long story short...

For the past 35 years or so I've been using La Bella Deep Talkin' Bass rounds on my short-scale basses almost exclusively. Unfortunately for me, they have been discontinued and I'll soon be running out of the small stock that I have on hand.

I can't play flats. Period. The same applies to lighter gauge strings. My current set is 044-110, and I would love to stay somewhere within that vicinity. The E string should be 105 at least, and thicker is better for my needs.

Stainless steel strongly preferred.

Willing to listen to any and all experiences that fellow TB members may have to offer on the subject matter at hand.

Any chance the GHS Super Steels medium scale would work for you?

The demo video on that page suggests it may be okay for short scale, but I guess it depends on the exact length on the instrument.

Yes, these *should* work on at least one of my short scale basses. I'll likely order a set and keep my fingers crossed...

With that being said, any other suggestions from the fellow TB members?

DR makes a good variety of short scale strings. For stainless steels, I would say Hi-Beams would be the best choice. I know they come in 105's. Probably other gauges too. They're good strings.

GHS makes short scale Bass Boomers, if I remember right, the strings were 50, 70, 90, 107.

Sorry, just noticed that the OP asked for Stainless Steel, Boomers I used were nickels.

@BobKos : Thanks for the suggestion on DRs, I've seen them around but have never used them. They are definitely getting on the shopping list. Thank you.

@unclebass : I've tried Boomers in the past and they were not really my thing on basses, liked them a lot better as a guitar offering. Nevertheless, thanks for taking the time to respond to this thread, highly appreciated.

I've ended up ordering DR Hi Beams from one source, and La Bella Super Steps - which are an incredibly rare find in SS - from another. Will probably order a set of GHS Super Steels next week as well, all of which should provide me with some sense of direction in my future purchases...

I use Ken Smith Rockmasters SS roundwound, good tension, last a long time. A .106 for the E string helps
the usual floppy character of that string on a short scale bass

I've seen these strings offered at various places, but have never (knowingly) played a bass strung with them. They seem to be worth trying based on your post. Duly noted.
