Dont you think that if you were a large company, such as Ibanez, and you had a bass legend, such as Carol Kaye, endorsing your basses, you'd make a decent looking string dampener so she wouldn't have to use tape and toilet paper or whatever it is she uses to dampen her strings?

Silly Ibanez / Carol Kaye Comment/Question

I think that stems from her session days way back. She mentions she did it back then like that.
She doesn't like too much damping pressure on the strings she doesn't use thick foam mute.

You'd think that, wouldn't you? Seems like a ready-made marketing/selling point to me. So what would a Carol Kaye model Ibanez bass look like? A modified Talman? A resurrected RB-II series passive four stringer? The sunburst SR she's seen with lately?
Endorsing is just as overrated business wise as scales are music wise.
No doubt that Ibanez should merit a few changes on her behalf. If my memory serves me correctly the bass she plays is no longer produced by Ibanez. I think if she endorsed some of the current models they could be moved to make some changes. How active is she on the music scene these days at the mighty age of 81?
Ibanez has shown that they make top notch quality instruments so it's no surprise that professionals like them. Like any company, they have to see how viable the artist is in the current market. There are many artist that no longer are endorsed (Ibanez) due to them simply moving on to other companies or retiring from music.
Good point, but I think it looks like crap and would think they'd want their products to look better.
Like I said, it's just a silly question, but one I think of every time I see a video of her.
Besides, everyone KNOWS she didn't play on everything she claims to have played on and is just trying to steal credit from Jamerson. She probably has the Funk Machine hidden somewhere and is also the mystery seller of the Bass of Doom. She also was the one who had the Mothman bass built right after she fired the drummer and then rage quit. I do like that she gave Gene Simmons that lesson because he sucks. If she took that dampener off, it would be the best bass for metal.
(The above paragraph is all just my attempt at humor and to incorporate as many hot topics on here as I could. I admire Carol and mean no disrespect to her or anyone that my humor may offend.)

Generally people need to have an active project to be legitimately endorsed. That goes triple for sig models.
Unless the person in question is deceased of course.
It's not a matter of "this person is a legend they deserve a signature bass" it's a matter of "will this person's signature bass model be profitable."
Except for Warwick who seems to build $7k sig models for bassists that could never be profitable....e.g. their Jimmy Earl model.

Now lets talk about the LACK OF AN EASY TO USE MUSICALLY MUTE KIT. I have a Japanese violin bass that has one that is one spring with a hinge that applies a mute pad to the strings whenever you want it to with a simple press of the palm. How about someone does that
