We just fired our singer who was dragging us down.
Idk why singers think they are God's gift. She would habitiually miss or be late to sheduled rehearsals. Then not even know the new material. The excuse was that she was busy.. we'll we are all busy.
Absolutely 0 gear to contribute. The nail in the coffin was when she said she couldn't learn songs on her own and needed to really learn them at rehearsal. So we get to practice all week and you just show up on our time and we're supposed to teach you the songs? Good luck with that.
This band was a gigging 5 piece with keys and vocals. Now we're back to our original 3.. drums, bass, guitar. Time to get tight as a rhythm section.

So what you should have done is fire the drummer.
That would have been a warning shot for the singer and she would have gotten her act together ;-)

I would but he's the BL. He does the firing

They aren't all that way.

Our female singer is an amazing vocalist. She not only nails her harmonies, but sometimes helps me land MINE. (I have always done high harmonies in the past. With a female singer that usually doesn't make sense. So I have had to learn how to sing lower harmonies, which don't come naturally for me having done the high stuff for thirty years.) Her ear is ridiculous.

She owns our mains speakers (QSC tops and subs).

She runs a bakery out of her house. So she not only shows up with her vocal parts nailed, but she also brings AMAZING baked goods to rehearsal!

My only point is this. Female singers aren't all spoiled rotten divas.

Best of luck with your search for a new singer.

What took you so long... but seriously....
and also, where did the keys go?

Practice is what you do on your own to learn your parts, so you can put those parts together at rehearsal. She was unwilling to do that.

I bet when she spoke to her friends, she called it "her" band.
Exactly. I tried to explain that to her.

He left because the commute was too much for him. Left such an empty space in our sound :/

Some people “work” to be a member and others just like to say “ I’m in a band. “ I’m fed up with the latter to the point where I’m seriously considering quitting for good. Oddly, most retired folks, to my surprise, appear to have more conflicts than younger people and seem to think, well “ I always wanted to be in a band” I’ve been quite disappointed to find most folks, even talented “ bedroom musicians” literally have no idea or desire to commit to the work involved.

This could be repeated a zillion times over among all bands. I had the exact same situation. Except me and the guitar player just quit because it was the singer and drummers band. Congrats, y'all just lost all yo strings!

Q: How many lead singers does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Just the one. They hold the bulb up to the fixture and the whole world revolves around them.

It gets tricky when the drummer is also the BL because he/she can't fire themselves, that's just called quitting and isn't cool. The best way to handle firing a BL drummer is for everyone else to leave and start the band with a different drummer just for spite.

Sounds like the singer didn't contribute in any meaningful way. Smart to move on.

from my post in the "band leaders" thread: Our lead singer also BL:

1: She books us.
2: She is the final word on song selection.
3: She is a great front-person: Audiences love her.
4: She’s a great manager of people: When I decided I needed to back out of gigs for a while (Covid fear) she didn’t get mad. She got on the phone and found a sub for me in less than 30 minutes. Best of all, she said “ Let me know when you’re ready to come back.” That, friends, is leadership.
And an additional 5: She is ruthless in rehearsal. You'd better come prepared or you're going to hear about it.

Generally this could apply to any musician your band dice just happened to land on "singer".
We had a drummer you could count on to be at least 30 minutes late. All around was a pretty good guy so we let it slide. However, this singer girl seems like she had all kind of issues. I would be embarrassed if didnt come to rehearsal prepared. The sheer audacity!
I like that last statement sounds so British! LOL :roflmao:

"

Is as worthless as a 5th leg on a dog. Life is way too short for that nonsense. Move one.
