I don't like shopping for new things but the old iphone6 has seen better days; has a badly cracked screen and is super slow at times, sometimes it will just drop a program after freezing up. Probably I'll keep it and play music from it, like when I'm at the gym.

phones I know a little about,

iphones, since I already have an iphone 6 it would be easy to adjust to a newer model but they are expensive

google pixel, we have these at work and they seem to be ok but unproven over the long haul

samsung These were the old phones at work, which developed battery problems after a year or so but otherwise seemed good

LG something or another. It's kinda flat and rectangular. It makes phone calls. It gets email and internet. I use it for boarding passes. It's not an Apple with a built in failure date and incompatible charger. Other than that, it was whatever the store had when the one before it got smashed into a zillion little pieces. I have had this one for several years, and it works fine. It stays charged enough to use for a couple days if I don't use it on the internet.

The short version is that if it's not a lifestyle choice of some kind, I don't think it much matters any more.

I have a reasonably new Samsung Galaxy S8 - I really like it, except for the fact that the active part of the screen continues around the edge of the curved bezel - makes it very hard to hold with one hand without accidentally activating something. Other than, it's way better than my last (an ancient Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD).

LG: i think it's a k-10 (?). really cheap! i bought because it had the biggest screen of any smartphone in the AT&T store --- at the time. i use it for mixing/monitoring (thus the big screen) at gigs.

it does everything (for which i use it) just great...except for actual phone calls.

i agree with Gaolee 's take on the issue.

I've had a samsung Galaxy S5 since it launched...so 4 years.
Very happy with it...the camera's not the greatest compared to current phones and the battery is starting to lose charge too quickly so I'll be replacing it soon enough...almost certainly to another Samsung.

Iuni N1 is pretty great. Good battery, octacore, 13 mp camera, about 80 Euros. They flash them for your region before shipping. I had to buy a rooting app to gain root access. I'm considering buying a second.

Galaxy S8. Love it.

I like the Android OS, actually. I love that there are a gazillion free apps. I love the screen. The camera is great! (See below)

My work phone is a iPhone 6 and I loathe it. Wonky navigation. Terrible reception in the same areas where the S8 does fine (both US Cellular).

The only Samsung i liked better than the Galaxy line (i have an S8 now) is the Samsung Notes.

They are the originators of the high end camera on most current phone models today, and they don't have the useless curved radius side edges that the Galaxy 8 has. Notes also have the pop out digital pen that allow you to scribble or type with, tho I never even used that feature.

The only reason I ended up with the Galaxy 8 is because when I went for a new phone, I was told they were dropping the Note line .. which they did not, and it was brought out 1week after my 2week buyers remorse exchange period ended :bored:

Galaxy still kicks booty, splash proof too

Motorola Droid Turbo 2. Guaranteed unbreakable screen because it's a hard plastic. Just have a tempered glass protective layer added at a phone store to prevent scratches. It's tending to slow down but I have too much crap on it.

I really like the unbreakable screen, as I have problems with manufacturers building all-glass phones. WHAT are they thinking???? I've broken the last two.

But I want to see this Droid speed up a bit. I deleted some apps to help out.

There is a newer version, the z2 Force. Not cheap.

I just upgraded from the Samsung Note 5 to the Galaxy S9 a couple days ago. The note still worked fine (and I'll keep as a backup), but the battery turned to garbage. I wish they still had replaceable batteries :/ Oh well, got like 2 and a half years out of the thing.

I only have like 2 days on it, but I love the galaxy s9 so far. It actually has a larger screen than the Note 5, but a smaller overall size, so double win for that! The screen looks phenomenal, the camera is great, and its super fast. The only thing that I have yet to get used to is the fingerprint scanner on the back. The Note had it on the home button, which I much preferred.

I drank the cool-aid, and I think I own every product that Apple makes. Thus my phone is an apple 8.
Having an all Apple house has it's cool features, everything works together, so my files are up to date on every device.
Downside- When the phone rings in the middle of the night, everything in the whole damn house rings- My desktop, my laptop, my two ipads, my phone and my watch, all go nuts at the same time.
Siri's joke of the day- What do you call a dog that does magic? A labracadabrador!

iPhone 8 Plus. Nothing to compare it to. It works well. Love the thumb recognition, which integrates with all apps and makes things quick to login to. But that’s probably standard on all smartphones these days.

Motorola Turbo 2 that I have had since it came out October of 2015.
I've been using Motorola phones since the original Droid came out in fall of 2009. I ventured away a couple times to Apple, but came right back to Motorola and Android.
Android is the right choice for me.
I tried the Pixel 2 XL recently, but one really cool Motorola feature keeps me loyal to them, wave to wake.
I love being able to wave my hand in front of my phone and the notification screen lights up to tell me if I have any missed calls or texts There are third party apps that do this, and I tried them on the Pixel, but it isn't the same. Plus, I prefer using the native apps/features built into the OS instead of adding apps to do this or that. Lenov
I also really like how Lenovo and Verizon leave the Android experience mostly stock. A few added apps that can easily be uninstalled or disabled if you don't want them.

Samsung Galaxy S7.

I'm a Samsung fanboy now (Galaxy Nexus, S3, S5 and now S7 and a NotePro tablet). After hearing all my Android friends rave about their phones, the OS, the apps, etc. a few years ago, I realized their was a better mousetrap than the iPhone... and boy, was I right. :smug:

I was an iPhone user for three years and remain a happy Apple computer user. Note to all who are curious: Android phones and Apple computers play very nicely together. With Android File Transfer, I can move files back and forth with ease and don't have to mess with any unreliable cloud storage. Yes, I have an old-school mentality when it comes to that as I've heard too many horror stories about Apple's cloud, especially about how iTunes and Photos doesn't properly sync across multiple devices with the same Apple log-in... so I'm happily boycotting using it. And guess what -- my way works beautifully and easily.

Yes, the S7 has treated me extremely well the past couple of years. The OS is sweet, battery life is stout and the camera is just as fantastic as everyone says. The Google Play Store is terrific (it's kinda like the Mos Eisley spaceport... vast and diverse options... so sometimes you have to dig a little to find what works), but I always get what I need. I love how they have tons of apps the Apple Store doesn't while still offering all the apps that are in the Apple Store.

The S7 has survived drops without a scratch as well as splashes and dunks in both fresh and saltwater. Btw, Samsung offered up waterproofing and OLED screens YEARS BEFORE Apple... what does that tell ya? At the recommendations of the employees at the AT&T store, I went with the S7 and not the S7 Edge as I was told the latter was more prone to cracked screens (their words, not mine). I've purchased the same brand of el cheapo silicone case off eBay for the past couple of phones (no screen protectors, mind you as I don't believe they're needed) and my phone looks pristine. Gorilla Glass is a good thing.

Not sure what my next move will be. My S7 will soon be paid off... however, I'd like to move back to Verizon as their coverage is better in my nape of the woods. Unfortunately, I've had too many dropped calls on AT&T and won't be sticking around for more. The S9+ would get my money today if I had to make a move... 6 gigs of RAM? Yes, please!

YMMV.
