Hello!
I just installed a new pickup on my bass along with an extra volume pot for it. The current configuration is Volume-Volume-Tone.
Problem is, when I turn both volumes down I can still hear a very low sound coming through. I'm not sure what I've done wrong, as the volumes do actually work as intended so I'm not sure whether this is a wiring problem or one of the pots is broken. It comes out of the J pickup, as when I try touching the P pickup with my fingers I can hear no sound, but the J does output some sound.
The J pickup is very old and I found it lying in a box in my room, so it may not be in perfect condition.
Some more info: bass is a Precision, I installed a J neck pickup between the P pickup and the neck, under the pickguard. The J pickup's volume is low compared to the P, but I guess that is just because it is under the pickguard and thus much farther from the strings. Even when I play with the P pickup only, it still sounds different from what I heard before adding the J pickup (this could probably be due to the fact that the sound still coming out of the J pickup is affectin the tone?).
All three potentiometers are new, 250K Log pots.
One last thing: potentiometers don't do much when turned for 85% of their "span" and change the tone radically during the last 15%. I guess I have to change the volume pots to linear ones?
Any ideas on what I should try to fix this?
Thank you!
