I am a 46 year old mediocre bassist (with modest musical ambitions) who normally plays a Fender MIM PJ bass, which I love. However, I have long coveted a Spector 5 string because of my long-standing devotion to Graham Maby, but am not in the market for a Euro or one of the high end ones.

My basic question is how do the Legend 5 Classic and the Legend 5 NT compare?

Beyond the increased sustain of a NT construction and the pretty significant weight difference, it seems (judging from online sources) that the other major difference is the pickups.

The L5NT has Aguilar DCB humbuckers and the L5C has SSD humbuckers. To be honest, I have no way to judge the relative differences between these and no one around me seems to stock these so I can't play them easily.

The Classic seems to run $800 online and the NT $1400, a not insignificant difference. Any advice you might have to offer as to the qualities that make the NT worth 75% more would be appreciated.

While not answering your question directly, I'll add in that there were Korean neck through models a few years back. Those are also EXTREMELY nice, and can be had in the 400-500 dollar range used. Look for the NS2005, if this piques your curiosity.

It's worth the difference for the electronics and neck thru, how much difference it's worth is up to you, I picked up a Legend classic 5 for a second bass and am very happy w/ it but the other one is a better bass/

I see from ebay that there have been half a dozen Euro 5 LX's sold used that have approximated the price of the Legend NT. I think that's the way I'm going to go and then not have to want to jump to a Euro in a year or two after buying the legend. Thanks for your help.
