Spector Legend 5 Standard or Yamaha TRBX 505

I've been mulling around getting a new 5 string. Both of these in this price range caught my eye. The stores around me don't have either of these to try out. The Spector Legend Standard I was looking at has the 2 humbucker SSD pickups and says it has "active tone controls", but sometimes I see it listed as a passive bass. What gives? There's not even much on Youtube about this Spector. The Yamaha sounds amazing and I've played other (older series) Yamahas that seem similar and I like their thin necks.

Anyone have experience with these bases and can tell me the pros/cons or which they think is a better bass to help continue my "investigations?

I LOVE the Spector Legends. I believe the reasons for differing descriptions is different models, different years, etc. Then you also have Classic and whatever the other designation is.

Ed Friedland did a review of the Yamaha TRBX 505 in BP magazine and loved it. No cons. He was actually really impressed with it at its price range.

That alone would direct me towards the Yamaha if it was my choice. It's also active/passive so there's no question about which it is, cuz it's both.

Yeah, I saw the review of the 4 string version in Bass Gear Mag. Same type of comments..."It's not a good bass for $500, it's just a good bass." Pretty good endorsement.

What kind of neck does the Spector have on it? Is it more rounder/Warwick-ish or more thin Ibanez-ish?

I had one briefly while I went through a flipping phase, as well as the Rex neck through T-Bird knockoff. They both seemed closer to Warwick IMO, but I've played different Warwick neck profiles too depending on model. The neck on the Rex reminded me of a 2008 Rick 4003 I had.
