I had a Squier 60's classic vibe bass a while ago that I swapped the pickups out of for a set of dimarzios. It really took away alot of the punch that I liked about that instrument; I eventually sold it with the dimarzios still in it. I still have the CV pickups that I'll eventually put into another bass.
The CVs are really nice basses for the price. If I could do it again I wouldnt swap out the pickups as the stock ones really have a nice punchy jazz bass tone that I think sounds better than an MIM model. If you are sold on the vintage 74 pickups then it might be worth trying. Worst case scenario hold onto the stock pups and swap them back in if you are unimpressed with the replacement.
