Double Bass Stanley Clarke on "500 Miles High" -

Which version of the tune? There are many - the one with Stan Getz? where he seems to be just doing 5ths, and some triads with the 9th on top? his job is to move that groove that Tony W is driving.

He seems to do the same kind of line on the first Return to Forever version too; and it is slower. And Joe Farrell blows the hell out it. And Airto kicks butt on his kit.

I had the first Return to Forever version in mind, from "Light as a Feather" as you linked. However, I like the Stan Getz version a lot and you do hear the bass better on the one, IMO. If I listen to it enough, I might not need the transcription!

Really like the growly sound and busy playing of Stanley Clarke on those old recordings. Very clear sound. Something else than the muddier double bass sound of lots of his jazz contemporaries. Big inspiration for me.
Although by times it sounds a bit out of tune to me on the Stan Getz version but that doesn't spoil the fun.
