Does anyone know if the SBMM Short Scale Stingray uses the same size control plate as the full-size model?

Looking to reduce weight on mine a little, and I was contemplating swapping the metal plate for a plastic or aluminum one. A couple of companies do make them, just curious if I could order one and if it would fit or if I'd have to get something custom-made.

thanks!

That’s the same thought that came to my mind… can’t be more than a couple of grams at most. Certainly nothing that someone would honestly notice.
Hmm. You're probably right. I think I'll just replace the stock knobs for aluminum ones and go for lightweight tuners. It's 8lbs 2oz now, so it's not super heavy to begin with, I'd just like to get it under 8lbs.

FWIW, the folks at Sterling replied and said:
The control plate on our RAYSS4 Short Scale StingRay is a dimensional match to the control plates found on our Ray34 StingRay (not a match with SUB Series Ray4).

These control plates are available for individual sale; please see my notes on pricing and availability below:

Part Number: RP-007 (Control Plate for RAY34, RAY24CA, RAYSS4 - Chrome)
Cost: $20.00 + shipping
Status: Limited Availability

Part Number: RP-007.1 (Control Plate for RAY34, RAY24CA, RAYSS4 - Black)
Cost: $25.00 + shipping
Status: Limited Availability
So you can order them by writing to them, I'm not sure they're on the parts site per se.

But as to whether they're a match for "standard" StingRay control plates in size I don't know. I guess I'd just do a tracing if I ever decided to get a custom one made.

I do think that the difference that lightweight tuners makes is far more noticeable when it comes to a bass’ comfort but hey, don’t let me stop you from doing your thing! Maybe a couple grams is all you’ll need to get under that 8lbs. Maybe you’ll find no difference at all but your new control plate will probably still look slick. If there are indeed plastic ones available somewhere, you could probably get any colour, combination or even print that you could imagine 👌
