Hey do you realize there are two threads exactly the same?
I put La Bella Original 1954's on my Fender P/J bass a few days ago, I love those strings. I had always been hesitant to try them figuring they would stress the neck too much but nope, after setting the truss rod the neck is still straight as an arrow and there is more to go. You can put the action way down low and dig in pretty much as much as you want without slapping the frets. They have a big sound too, they are definitely keepers.
Pbass with Chromes can do anything. I was bored this morning and ran it through a fuzz and OD, used a pick and it was just this throaty, cutting tone that would be great for heavy rock.
Of course for R&B/jazz it is incredible clean or with effects. One thing you may want to try is running it through the sadowsky preamp. I use the Noble 2 band pre and just add a bit of treble and bass an always on. Works perfectly with Pbass and Chromes.
It is an epiphany that lasts awhile.
When I play "What Is Hip?" on the one Fender P I own with flats, I get it. I'm almost a full-time convert.
I know how you feel. I love my Peavey Fury with flats, but I am keeping rounds on my fives. Round wound brightness is a beautiful thing too.
it is wierd ... it sounds like you're not exactly with them
Love your honesty! Too many bassists blame the bass!I was off a bit at times.
I don't have headphones to listen to it properly!
Time it invest in some headphones.
Did any of the church members comment on whether or
not they liked the octave pedal?
Did anyone even notice your tone was different?
Anyway, looks like a great time and a man enjoying his
craft!
FWIW, the tone of the Peavey Fury was already pretty thick, so theAt a rehearsal, someone noticed the tone. The effect is more noticeable on D and G strings, but it really thickens the sound, and can substitute somewhat for a five.
