Strange Fender Precision at a Pawn Shop

Saw this odd looking P-Bass at a pawn shop behind the counter, it doesn't look like any Fender basses I've seen and the Upper Horn looks like it got shaved down a bit. Anyone seen something like this before and know anything about it or is it a parts bass? The serial number I the neck came up to 1982-1985 (CBS Era) but the body and all the switches don't seem stock

The bridge is way out of alignment with the neck. If the neck is nice and the price is right it might be a candidate for a proper body, otherwise it is just a poorly executed parts bass.

Very versatile pickup setup though, especially if those are single/series/single switches.

okay, thanks. i tried zooming in on the pic; didn't help much. if i had to guess, i'd say it looks like E 7, which much better fits the type face now that i consider it.

edit: those are some really long stem tuners

My guess is 2 stolen basses - necks were swapped so they'd both be less "hot" - neither fits the description or pictures on police reports. I've seen it on instruments where the scale lengths didn't match, creating instruments that didn't play anywhere close to in tune. Run (don't walk) for the exit.

Body is not Fender at all. It even looks home made to me. Truss rod valley body bolted to a headstock TR adjustment? Mid 80's USA necks aren't worth very much, even loaded.

That shop is upside down on this one.
