Strat pickup next to the bridge

Im a huge fan of Cliff Burton and after finding out that he had a guitar pickup installed in the bridge of his Rick ive been thinking about doing that to my bass. If i do some routing close to the bridge will it take away support that the wood around the bridge gives it?

I wouldn't worry about that. I'm not sure how tall start pickups are, but it may not take much routing?

The bigger question for me would be if it's worth it. I see very little value in having a pickup at that location, and I'm not sure if a strat pickup is powerful enough. I'm sure it sounds thin by itself, but I'm also not sure how it might sound together with another pickup. I know Cliff had one, but I wonder if he actually used it?

What bass are you looking to mod?

I have a P-bass that i have been modding ive already put a music man humbucker in the bridge position. The strat pickup i have is a stack so theres a little more output than a normal one and i was thinking of connecting it to a switch and then straight to output so that when i turn it on it would give me a treble boost and make it so that when i play the higher notes it would sound a bit like a guitar

If you want to put a pickup in the place of a Rickenbacker bridge mute, Bartolini makes a specific pickup just for that application and has done so for years. It is designed as a drop-in replacement except for the wiring, so if you have to rout out anything, it would be just shaving the bottom of the cavity to make it fit. Links:
