I just recently made the switch from 45-100 (super slinky's) to 50-105 EXL160's. The change was because I just wanted to try something different and I actually like these better than my normal strings. Do I have to do anything different to the bass nut though? They seem to fit fine in the nut fine but I just don't know what the maximum gauge is before you would have to modify the nut. The bass is a Fender P.

I suspect the nut will be fine. The gage difference is marginal. I’d be more concerned with the additional tension. More than likely you’ll have to tighten your truss rod a scootch to bring it back to where you’re used to it. Providing the action and set up is where you liked it to begin with. I love Regular Slinky’s. I used them on a bass I keep in Eb. The extra tension really helps.

Edit to Regular Slinky’s

Yeah, I usually play in standard but sometimes tune to Eb.

Hey, no worries... I was just curious.

Come to think of it, I do that all the time - creating redundancy in my life by doing the same thing more than once when it's not needed. ;):D
So, do you think these strings are fine for standard tuning? I sometimes will go to Eb but the majority of the time I am in standard.
