Hi,
So I've seen a few threads about adding a subwoofer to one's stage rig. I play a 5-string and find most amps to be a bit woeful on the low end so I started wondering if adding a subwoofer would help, but I also would want one that was light enough to not kill myself hauling it around (I'm no longer a youngster).

I saw the Rockville 12" powered one and wondered if anyone has used this in their setup and what their thoughts were about it, or on any other subwoofer they might of added to their stack.

i have occasionally used a sub --- in the past. but i usually did not bi-amp: i used an 18" sub paralleled. i don't think about any subwoofer application these days as i'm almost always in a PA mix, and even if i wasn't = it would be overkill for the stuff i'm doing. i have bi-amped all sorts of tops/subs combinations = easy to do if you have the amp(s).

having said that: i just purchased a few 10" raw sub speakers from the carvin sale on ebay (i'm putting together a 'mini PA'). so if you can build a box to spec, that might be a choice.

so: IMO, a sub might be overkill with PA support, but if you have the need there are plenty of ways to do it. i am sorry that i have no personal experience with the rockville. good luck!

Results depend on unpredictable variables. Your best chance is biamping it with a crossover. It could still have a phase mismatch at the crossover. Then you would rewire the sub driver opposite polarity and cross fingers.
