Double Bass SummerGrass, San Diego (Vista), California 8/16-8/18 (THIS WEEK!)

I'd like to come listen but probably just for one day. I enjoy bluegrass but am not knowledgeable. Any recommendation of which day might stand out among the three?

Oh, do these venues sell out or is buying tickets at the gate ok?

Usually buying tickets at the gate works out fine, although I don't know if the price is the same at the gate vs pre-purchased by phone or online.

Sunday is probably the big day, although Saturdays are a close runner-up.

We go primarily to jam, and usually SummerGrass has a lot of great jamming. We'll take in a few shows but we get itchy fingers before too long and want to go back to jam more. Our band has done the Sunday morning Gospel hour a few times, but this year we'll just be there for fun.

Went up Saturday evening for last three bands. What a tease! Had no idea the steam museum venue would be so interesting. Now I'm going to have to repeat the 50 minute drive during the daytime to scratch that itch: I'm much more of a steam punk nerd than a bluegrass aficionado.

We just got back home a couple of hours ago. We hated leaving. SummerGrass has been one of our favorite festivals over the last 20 years and this year's festival was even more of a treat because the weather was so good...

Nice and cool (>60F) evenings and overnight, and through most of the morning until the marine layer disappeared, then warming (<85F) in the afternoon until about 5 or 6pm when the marine layer forms and cools again. Very mild winds, absolutely beautiful sunsets. Even the mosquitoes were reduced because of the cool evenings.

The bands we watched were excellent, but my wife and I do festivals mostly for jamming, and that was wonderful! All of our main band was there, just jamming and having fun. Others, friends and new folks, joined in and we were going until 1 or 2am most nights. What a great time!!! I played DB and banjo just about equal time for the jamming and played mandolin in the mornings just for a little quiet reflection.

Our next event is an Alaska bluegrass cruise in a couple of weeks. More jamming!!!
