SWR Stack Complete

image.jpeg
After months of searching, I finally found a 1x15" SWR cab to complete my stack. Picked up this one up on Ebay for $109. Coupling with Amplite and 1x15 cab... Poor man's Markbass, baby!!

Its poor mans swr actually, the cabs at least. I had that in a pebble grille son of Bertha, Goliath Jr II and bass 350. All got stolen last fall. Rocking rumbles now.

I bought the swr rig in 98 new with Goliath III/sob, found the Jr II around 2008 for a crazy steal of a price. Still have the Goliath. They also got my workingmans 10 and 1x10t, among other things.

I never did like markbass.

Poor mans Markbass?
Wow is that funny or an insult?

At worst its poor mans SWR. At best it's what he likes and can afford. SWR gear is good stuff. We all have to do what we can where we can with what we have. My LA-8 quite entry level kicks major bootay. Of course I accidentally put a Celestion 8" in it but hey who knew?

Looks to me that SWR fielded a pro amp/cab line that is still in service today. They figured out how to keep most of the sound and deliver tiers for up & coming players and folks on limited budgets.

But Wow. Markbass. Where are they now? Classic TB jumps on it like its liquid jesus dipped in butter and hey it's not flavor of the month anymore. The original heads were impressive. Their cabs, not close to immediate competition. There are very few gigs roadhouse to corporate, wedding or jazz club where that that garish color scheme would fly. Last thing I want to hear is the mother of the bride alarmed at amps clashing with the ballroom color scheme. She's paying! :)

Neither? OP said it so I was looking for clarification.
The old SWR is booteek level goods.

The new stuff not so much. People look at me like I'm weird if I say that. My best sounding amp is my Super Redhead. I leave it at home. First because it weighs too much second since it sounds so good I'll never be able to replace it. The PAS ARE LOW milage and I hear they are out of business.

SWR is my fave amp line. Boutique gear at pawn shop prices. Has every feature ever asked for built in. Clean, true sound with boatloads of eq options. The Redhead is also my fave amp. I've played one since 91 or so. I put wheels on mine. And I run a blackface Son of Bertha under it. I also use Workingman's stuff. I record lots with my WM's 110 combo. I hate sayin it, but it is my best sounding amp, I can't quite get my Redhead to emulate. I also have an ancient SM-400S. A whole other take on the SWR sound. On my 15, it is simply fabulous. The Headlites are really packed with features. Sound great. And I wish I could find one as inexpensive as my 400s. Ha! Nice score...
