Hi, I just wanted to make a review of this bass because I haven't found that much information about it online. I'll try to add some pictures after the initial post. I got the bass as a discounted b-stock for $170. There are some cracks and chips in the finish, which I don't care about because I am intending to refinish it. They don't effect playability anyway. The body is a 1 piece ash with a 1 piece maple neck with rosewood stripe. The finish is a very nice clear poly finish which extends over the neck and fretboard. It comes with a nice-looking pearloid pickguard. The inlays - which are also pearloid - aren't perfect; I can see a little bit of wood filler around each one. The bridge is a copy of a Mighty Mite high mass bridge, the tuners are the standard Chinese-made open gear elephant style ones. The neck contour is a d-shape and the neck radius is pretty flat. The bass plays as good as some higher-end Squiers or mid-price fenders I've played in the $400-700 range. I can get around the fretboard pretty quickly and I can't feel any sharp fret ends. The harmonics are way better than the other cheap basses I have, I can get those false harmonics at many points on the neck. There are no dead spots, but there is a lot of fret buzz so It will likely need some fret-work after I finish modifying it. I think the pickups actually sound pretty close to what's on a mim or american std. fender, though they are not noiseless. If I were not planning to modify the bass I think it would still make a great instrument, one that is considerably beyond its price point in quality. For whatever reason, SX actually stopped making these basses so your best chance of one would be the used market or trying to get lucky with whatever Rondo has left.
