This kind of cluelessness about how double basses work is why we don't go to our local violin shop to have them set up there. We go to a real doublebass luthier !!

I think this kind of tailgut is made for a different kind of tailpiece where two holes are at the back of the tailpiece parallel to the length axis of the tailpiece. Typical for cello, not for bass.

The problem is that bass is not part of most luthiers education, even not in Mittenwald (except you want to learn this and ask for it). So they hardly see a bass at all to learn. And one reason is that since we know that they might not know, we visit a specialized bass luthier and that way they see even less basses.

My friends have known me to call her affectionately "Deena", short for "sardine can". Happily, she sounds pretty good, better than a sardine can anyway.

Fwiw, I've seen Deuce Bridges on other basses, but I've never seen another Deuce Tailpiece (which is why I assume it was custom-made for this bass).
