Bass Players,
30 years ago I walked in to a music shop that was going out of business and bought a Traynor Monoblock II paired to a Kroth cabinet running a EMV15B driver. The guy who sold it to me ran the shop, and it was his personal gigging gear, but he had to pay rent so I paid what he wanted for it. He cried a little, and demanded that I give him first right of refusal should I ever sell it. I don't think those were crocodile tears because it was his own gigging stuff.
Anyway, here I am today with my EMV speaker blown, so in my true nature I am going to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Being a mobile application guy, I bought the TC Electronics BH800 for 800 watts of power at 4ohms (450W @ 8ohms), but also because I like the Toneprint thing. Very cool for experimenting with new sounds, and finding a damn close replication to my old sound. (but clearer)
Now I have to choose a cabinet.
Considerations:
- I'm 50, so weight is important to me. Neodymium drivers make sense to me.
- I play in a classic cover rock band that rehearses once/week, and there is backline gear at our practice place. You plug in and use their stuff.
- We gig once a month, usually in bars or private parties, and street parties...so plenty of outdoor stuff in the summer time.
I want to try a 410 because I love mids that come out of them. After taking my new BH800 to a music store and plugging in to an Ampeg 410HLF, a MarkBass 410 (model?), a Hartke 410, and a GK NEO 410, I have developed my own opinion of what I want, and maybe that is what this is all about. What you the player likes best.
What do you think?
