The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is proud to announce that 5 artists from the ballot are included in the Performer Category and 1 individual is recognized with an Award for Early Influence.

THE 2018 ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES ARE:

Award for Early Influence:

• Sister Rosetta Tharpe

The 33rd Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Klipsch Audio, will take place on Saturday, April 14, 2018 in Cleveland. Ticket on-sale dates will be announced in January. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2018 Induction Ceremony will again have its television premiere on HBO, and a radio broadcast on SiriusXM. Broadcast details will be announced in early 2018.

I habe no idea who Nina Simone is. I'm sure she deserves to be there.

But the rest I'm really happy about. Congrats to all of them. I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time stressiing over who didn't make it in this time. The greats will get in eventually.

Nina Simone is a genius...on the same page as Ray Charles and Etta James. Jazzier, greater range, more adventurous...a monster!
The good Sister should have gone in with Hank Williams...That’s how ‘roots’ she was.

The R&R HOF does little else but frustrate me.
It IS, however, a great day out!

Rock and roll is indebted to all earlier genres (jazz, blues, soul, etc.) for their influence and the induction attempts to recognize artists from those genres. Nina Simone was an outstanding jazz and blues pianist and vocalist who is quite deserving in recognition. As an outspoken civil rights activist and feminist, I'm guessing that the committee saw her as embodying "the spirit of rock and roll", to paraphrase Ice Cube.

Criminal that MC5, The Meters, King Crimson & Link Wray haven't been inducted yet.

Even though I think Radiohead deserves to be inducted as well, for influencing a ton of modern music and innovating pretty much every album, there's no way they'd ever accept the award or care at all that they had been nominated.
