So I came up with a thought and question(s) I post to you all and see what you think.
Ever since I started playing I’ve been a tone chaser In the midst of my studies. When it comes to amps and Basses my collection is diverse. However, I feel like my ears are getting to a point where I am liking certain tones and eqs through cabs and di’s.
So I’ve owned all Mesa bass gear in recent 20 years (it feels like it) except carbines which I’ve tried and avoided for the reason of my love for a tube touch. I just traded a 800 for a Scout because I like the tube warmth. I love my mpulse 600 more though through 2 15s powerhouse cabs. So my question is where do I go from here or what amps out there are similar? (I have had their all tube amps and I wasn’t a huge fan)******+++<——
I have an ampeg v4b and 2x12s as well. Love em but think the mpulse is more my cut through taste. What else is similar out there that’s similar? I don’t have good music stores to try gear in locally.
Secondly, I want to bring up DIs in These Mesa amps. I have a reddi which is great but I feel like my tone is chopped up into pieces. (Beautiful fluffy peices through the reddi) however, I prefer to hear that of the gear’s shaped sound post eq. ( with reddi I have to crank on the tone knob it in order to get close to the True Tone I want.) Thoughts on post/pre/other di’s and tone?
I play various gigs from small to huge gigs. Would love to keep everything as consistent as possible.
