I think tort, either brown or dark red, would look great. The black looks good and gives more of a 70s vibe to it.

I cut and pasted a recent post of mine:

I'm as old-school as it gets when it comes to my personal style and aesthetics. 3TSB and Tort all the way! When I decided to do a PJ parts bass project, though, I found this Fender Hotrod Precision body in natural ash which tripped all the functionality triggers. Of course, I didn't consider anything but a tort pickguard.

I love the bass, in its flexibility, playability, and other stuffability, but it just didn't do it for me visually. So I took step #1 in my tortaholic 12 step plan. I detorted! I realize my new choice isn't very original, certainly not edgy, but I feel almost like it's NBD!!

In this case, I don't think the answer is Tort.

Take it off & if the route is tight enough just fill in the p/g holes with some wood putty.

The black looks fine. But if you want to switch it out, IMO the brown tort would look good with that finish and the rosewood board.
