I guess it would have to be the '63 Jazz that I played behind Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Otis Rush, Eddie Taylor, Hubert Sumlin and a host of other Chicago blues greats back in the '70's. It may not even be the best bass that I own today, but it's the only one that can tell a story like that! It will be hard to let it go, but I will some day.

A mid-90's post-Gibson Tobias Toby Pro 4. It was my main way back when it made any sense to describe any of my basses as a "main." I normally don't do a lot of modding, but this one has had a Kahler-style tremolo since about the turn of the millennium and I recently replaced all of the electronics with EMG stuff. It's not the fanciest thing in the world (or even the room it's in now), but sounds and feels great IMHO.

The reality is that it will never have a monetary value that even approaches the sentimental value. I have other basses that I can't envision parting with, but this one I'll definitely take to the grave.

I loved this bass from the first time I played it & I'd play it proudly even w/o all the fancy knobs & switches.
The only thing that bugs me about it is that I'm having to succumb to Ibanez for buying parts for it, because they've got bespoke pots in them.
The local dealer even says Ibanez isn't into selling parts for mods, but instead for repairs.

That said, I looked far & wide to find a bass that sounds & feels this good!
It sounds like I expected a Rickenbacker to sound.
I had that epiphany when I picked this one up, which I expected with a Rickenbacker a couple of years prior.

Well, theres my Roscoe 5 in my avatar. I've had it for 5+ years and it's by far the nicest bass I've owned or played. I also have a G&L JB-2 Tribute, a gift from my wife, that is a really nice bass that plays well, sounds good and is about 1 pound heavier than I wish it was. I could "get by" just fine with the G&L. I love my Roscoe. If it had to be just one, I think even my wife would say the Roscoe.
