The only Alnico I pickup I like - The Big Single

I have come to the conclusion the only alnico pickup I like is the Nordstrand Big Single


If I’m playing straight up J pickups I need the Audere with low Z...

Anyone else feel this way?

What about P pickups? Yeah, J's can sound a bit anemic, and Big Singles really do sound quite a bit bigger. I find some P pickups can have that big but clear sound...

But overall, I seem to prefer alnico pickups to other types of pickups. I'm not gonna say it's because of the alnico magnets, but it seems that pickups with ceramic or neo magnets often don't speak to me... Perhaps pickup winders that use those magnets typically pursue other tonal goals...

Note: the way the title reads right now is that you like Alnico 1 pickups I got curious if Nordstrand introduced new magnets to their line!
