I think that’s the case with any serious business, but, the arts are different in that it’s a service doing something many people do for recreation. Therefore, there is the passion factor which must be mixed in bc 999% of the time the pay isn’t worth the effort. So, a band needs to provide a platform for its members to proudly enjoy their hobby in addition to getting standard pay.

Only if the band is indeed a hobby. Most of the bands I've been in have been a mix of pros and non-pros. In that case, the players still have to enjoy working together but without the money, there’s no band at all.

You also have to understand the motivation and goals of the members and strive towards commonality.

What I mean is if Bob wants to be a serious musician and Tom is just a hobbiest, then money is not always going to bridge the gap. Bob is gonna want to gig constantly and strive for better paying bigger gigs, while Tom is only gonna want to gig when it fits into his life 's schedule. Neither attitude is wrong, but they can be far enough apart to simply not be compatible in the same band.

keeping everyone working with steady gigs.

A friend of mine used to be a studio drum tech for a number of well-known drummers. He told me one guy was on Prince’s payroll for a few years. He had to agree to stay around town and be ready to take calls 24/7 to drive to Paisley Park to record. He did not have to do any touring with Prince. The payoff was a six figure salary and he didn't actually have to record very often.

Working in two bands rn, one pro players with little change over seven years in players or setlist(yikes), and the other a rag tag group of excellent older players who eschew ‘tech’ like shared calendars and any talk of iem’s.

Communication seems to be the key with any organization…didn’t know all the nonpro players last names till I did a mini bio for a EPK.
