Double Bass the true disadvantage of the Double Bass

Best thing to do, take a little travel-size squirt bottled filled with sugar water, spritz a bit on your band mates when they're not looking, mosquitos won't bother you again.

Biggest disadvantages for me are:

a) How hard it is to lug around
b) How hard it is to play at first
c) How hard it is to play in tune.

Playing outside and having bugs is a problem with all instruments that require two hands...

Strange development -- I'm battling a fruit fly infestation in my kitchen. And a few of the flies seem to like to hang out on the headstock of my upright bass, and on the metal hellicore strings. Baffled as to why that happens.

I was playing an outdoor gig in Daytona Beach and No-See-Ums were out and vicious that night. I had plenty of bug repellant on, but one was on the back of my neck and chewing hard. There were some low-hanging lights on one side of the stage and one was missing the gel. I backed up to that light and burned the little sucker until he decided to leave.
