There are a lot of questions here from players asking about string spacing. From the classified responses, it seems to be that each person has their own must requirement for string spacing. I've never been able to see what that string spacing looks like online. OK, so to start, here is a 5 string Schecter bass. This is 16.5 mm spacing. Some people swear by their spacing choices.

I want to see all types of bass examples, P basses with 17, 18 or whatever. All basses. Post it here. Please try to confirm your source for the spacing for each bass spacing before you post a pic, and tag your post so people can search your result.

Just a suggestion:

Maybe placing an object like a coin or household key (or even a carrot!) in the picture near the bridge would actually help to give a meaningful perspective on what will otherwise become a load of randomly taken bass photos from all angles and distances?

Otherwise there's no real way to objectively 'see' the differences.

Peace,

Rob.

Or a ruler.

Now that's just crazy talk!

Anyone who's anyone knows how technically superior a carrot is over any of the most expensive, steel, high precison rulers in industry. ;)

Come on guys OP said: pics required.

Of course some specifics help.

For the pictures to have any value a ruler or tape measure blade positioned perpendicular to the strings and just under them should be included. The picture in post #1 is of no value because the bass is on an angle so the distance between the strings is foreshortened. The picture is post #8 is head on so it passes that test but no ruler. The picture in post #10 is just too cute!

Even with a ruler i don't understand what the value of these pictures would be!
What information does a picture of a specific string spacing give you?
If you want to see what a string spacing look like, just draw 4 lines on a piece of paper, even that won't help anything!

Actually, you are asking the wrong person, I was just offering some suggestions on how to make the pictures worth posting. Obviously the OP feels there would be value to this and my experience on the internet says that no matter how useless you may feel something is, there will be people who crave it. And where there is one there will be others. There is however one incontrovertible value to this exercise. It astonishes me how wide a variation people will commonly report for the spacing on the exact same model and brand of a bass guitar. Pictures posted with rulers would help us sort out truth from fiction from measurement error from manufacturing variation.

I agree with what others have said. But to honor your request here goes. This is an American Standard Fender Precision 5 string. 19mm string spacing at the bridge. View attachment 799942

Nope. The fender "hi-mass bridge" is adjustable from saddle to saddle. My bass (this model) measures exactly 18mm spacing from B to G with the B and G on the most inside saddle groove with all the strings in between evenly adjusted.
