I've been looking at the $350 thunderbirds that are at some guitar stores, and i played them a couple times and i liked how they sound and especially how they look. But i wanted to know if there are better basses for the same price or in the same range.

Tricky question with a few possible answers.
I got lucky and bought this for $399...used with a hardshell tapered case.
I'd definitely recommend it over the base model Epiphone T-birds...Gibson pickups...but if I find a bolt-on neck Thunderbird in Pelham Blue for the right price, I just might buy it.

Now, if you want to talk about some other really good $300 basses, I can recommend a few others, too.

Nothing's more important than trying out as many basses as possible, though.
Believe me, I try out 50 to 60 a year.

Yeah, sure that'd be cool if you could tell me some. I'd try some out more but the guitar store I go to has about 10 basses, 5 of which are $1000+ and the other 5 are all different squiers, which i'm not too interested in, just because I don't really like them, and the closest bif guitar store is like a 30 minute drive from my house

The Epiphone versions (Classic IV, bolt-on neck) pop up here on Craigslist semi regularly for $200 - 250 sometimes case included. I have two (white and tobacco burst) and they're both excellent playing and sounding instruments, especially considering the price range. If you like the look and the sound go for it. Really a much more versatile instrument sound wise than the average 7ender fan boys give it credit for.

Ibanez Talman TMB 300.
The TMB 100 is their entry-level Talman and they also have the TMB 600 for about $550.
This one is a very gig-worthy bass for $300.
Available in Candy Apple Red, Forest Green, Navy Blue, Black, Silver Sparkle, and Sunburst, too.

Thanks guys! This was really helpful, and I think I'm gonna wait and see if I can find an epiphone model on craigslist, but time will tell. If I don't find one after a while, I might buy the Ibanez.
