Of late, it's perceptibly quieter and with less pronounced attack.
Perceptible acoustically (not plugged in i.e. not suspecting electronic issue...)
Thought maybe too low causing pickup magnetic attraction, raised saddle 1 turn, no difference...
Almost 3 years old. Nothing special about A string AFAIK.
Roscoe Fretless - no slapping damage...

Hate to (IOW - can't afford to...) replace all 6 -- does anyone sell TIJF singles?
I know I can just buy a set of the center 4...

I know about the "just boil it" rejuvenation technique - afraid it'll just kill a TIJF with the silk core...

I have lots of other sets but the TIJF's really are the best I've found for the mix of styles and genres I play. I'd consider EB Cobalt flats (I have them on a fretted 5) but for some reason, EB can't figure out how to make a 0.030" C string...

Thoughts? thanks.

Ken Smith Slick Rounds, which are Alloy 52 half-rounds, might be an option for the high C to be matched up with the EB Cobalt Flat 5-string set. Alloy 52 (nickel-iron) and Cobalt are similar in the sense they're both high-output alloys with a highly magnetic property.

KS Slick Round .028 can be ordered as a single and it happens to have purple silk at both ends.

Just an idea...

The A string became dead sounding on a 4 string set of TI Flats. I contacted the company and they sent me a new string for free along with a postage paid envelope to return the faulty string.

Was that string on the bass all the time or did you take the strings off in between?

I had a muddy E string on my TI set recently and it turned out that I had twisted it slightly when putting it on. Loosened the string, rotated the ball end to straighten it out, solved the problem. Now the string works (again) like the others do.

Just ordered a couple from here:

Not cheap, but cheaper than a full set. Among the two available here, the Amazon Global Store seller is a little cheaper overall. But it will take a while for them to be delivered. This is more expensive, but you can probably get it more quickly.

Thomastik-Infeld Nickel Flat Wound Roundcore Long Scale .070, JF34070

I'll also vouch for what a poster said above about contacting their US distributor. I've done that a couple of times and they've replaced strings and even given me a few extras. Might be harder to make a case for 3-yr old strings, though.

Most of the complaints about TIJF's around here - the ones that aren't about how "rubbery" they are, or how long they take to break in, anyway - are almost always about that A string. Either it's dying before the other strings - long before - or, it's doing what yours is. And, yes; the solution most everybody turns to, is getting a new one from TI. And, a couple of extras, if they can score them... There's no problems - yet - with the TIJF's on my Alembic Epic, but if there ever should be? I'll probably follow @DCCat's advice...
And, no; boiling your TIJF's is not a good idea, Nor is it a good idea to boil flats in general, from what I've read. You might get away with the "Soaking in alcohol" trick, but you'd have to figure out some way to warm them up and dry out everything under the outer wrap...
