Tips on a powerful lightweight cab? (heavy downtuner)

Hey everyone,

I recently underwent surgery for a hernia and need to watch out with lifting heavy weights.
My current rig is a Fender Jazz tuned A#D#G#C# into a GK 1001RB-II head and a EBS CL-410.

The GK head has tons of power but since I'm tuned this low I feel that the cab sounds quite muddy and undefined. Do you guys have any suggestions on a tight sounding but also lightweight cab for me?

In terms of budget I'm thinking of something around 800 euros perhaps. Less is always better but I'm flexible.

If size and weight are top level concerns, you may wan to take a look at the Barefaced site. Their cabs get some very serious range and SPLs out of incredibly small, light weight boxes. They will help you select the right product for your needs. Being UK based, I'd assume cost/exchange rates and shipping would be well in line with your expectations.

Best wishes for a rapid recovery!

A better sounding cab that can take the low notes at higher volume? In a light package?

Checkout Barefaced cabs. You also get to return within a month if you decide you don't like the cab.

Thanks for the input everyone! Definitely going to check these out.

And BassmanPaul, thanks for the tip! It's high time for a new set of strings so I'm going to see if I can order a package of those GHS strings :)

IMO, spend the extra 200 euro and grab a F212. I auditioned one last weekend with my Mesa D800.

HOLY poopie.... if you're not getting enough low end, being able to hear yourself etc this cab is worth every penny.

The off axis is nothing short of amazing, pretty hard to actually grasp the concept after having owned a number of 2 cabinet stacks that always had sweet spots where I could hear myself. Move a foot from that sweet spot and nothing.... thin bass....

It takes very well to EQ and I'm sure you'll hear a voicing out of your GK 1001 that you've never heard before.

I'm a believer in the handful of cabinet makers that make these "super cabs". One 60ish lb F212 kicks the poopie out of my 2 GK NEO 212 stack.... Easily!!!!

Also, whether you go Greenboy, Barefaced, Audiokinesis or MAS they will all kick your ass. I've been putting a good amount of research in myself for a new cab and there's lots of great info on this site...
