Tone knob not doing anything?

I recently bought a used Ibanez artcore ABG200 for a good price, but I've noticed the tone knob does absolutely nothing. Does anyone have any experience with these basses? I can solder and do wiring but I'm not too sure how to go about fixing a bass. The bass has one volume, one tone, and a 3 way selector for the 2 humbuckers. Any input on mods I could do, what kinds of pots to use and wiring diagrams would be appreciated. The tone pot is the one closer to the bridge end of the bass.

IIRC, no one has been satisfied with the stock pots of the ArtCore series. There are probably many threads in the Pickups & Electronics sub-forum about changing the pots.
Get them out & measure Ohms from terminal one to terminal three.
I think the stock pots are only 25K or 50K Ohms, replace with 500K Ohm & you should be good to go.

edit: wrong on this one, it's the other way around, see the link in my next post

Some Ibanez Artcore instruments were built with low impedance pickups. I am not sure of the impedance, but I think it was in the neighborhood of 1.5 k Ohm, compared to the more common 10 to 15 k Ohm impedance of many pickups. If a pickup in the 1.5 k Ohm range has a tone control made up of a 500 k Ohm pot, and a 0.05 uF capacitor is installed in your bass, you could replace the volume and tone pots with 50 k Ohm audio taper pots, and the capacitor with something in the neighborhood of 0.22 to improve the effect that the tone control has on the output.

Check the DC resistance of the pickup, and the pot and cap labeled values as the first step.

As an alternative, you could replace the pickup with something better than the stock pickup.

Edit: kbd responded as I was typing.

Edit, again: I have an Artcore guitar, not bass, and I think these are really nice instruments. I put flat wound strings on mine, and it is one of my favorite guitars. Aside from the tone control issue, how do you like the bass?

Third edit: My post is based on a single pickup configuration. Before taking my advice, look at the way your two pickup bass is wired. Does Ibanez provide a schematic for your bass?

Thanks for the info, good to know I'm not the only one thinking this. Bass plays and looks great but seems quiet and the tone knob has no effect. The previous owner also had the E side of the bridge jacked way up so I'm worried the neck may be twisted too, but after straightening the bridge out and making adjustments it' not fretting out anywhere. The headsrocks definitely doesn' look like it lines up with the body when looking down the neck.

If the quality of your bass is similar to the quality, of my six string Artcore guitar, I think it would be worth installing better sounding pickups than the original ones rather than modifying the controls to suit the pickups that are in the bass now. That gives you the opportunity to make a very nice instrument even better.

Update. I swapped out the pots for 50k, which I had a hard time actually finding, and a .22 cap. Tone now works! I have yet to try the bass through my real amp, just used the battery powered miniature Marshall in the workshop to test. Anyone know if the volume will increase at all after this mod? Tried the bass out last practice with the band and it had no volume, couldn' keep up with any of my other basses.

I'm glad it works now.

Also I'm not sure which pickups fit in this bass
