Trace Elliot ELF

Have any of you guys played thru a Trace Elliot ELF rig? I like the idea of super-light, but I'm wondering how they sound. Guitar Center has them on their website but my local GC doesn't have any in the store to test drive. I had a TC Electronic RH450 for a while and never could get the tone tweaked in to where I liked it and I'm leery of going with another amp using a switching power supply. Anybody have experience with these rigs?

There was a thread last week where they were discussing which "classic" Trace Elliot sounds the ELF was best at recreating. Consensus seemed to be it sounded pretty good. I'm tempted. Last thing I need though.

Type Elf in the search box.
Hit the display results as threads box.
Hit search.
About ten threads down you will see one with 20,000 views. There be the gold.
Pretty impressive from what I read in that thread. That one is on my radar for a portable rig. I need to be working on that soon, in case we bug out of here earlier than planned. That topic keeps coming up more and more at the dinner table...

I'm all for avoiding hauling lead sled amps. Still, the engineer in me wonders if 1.6 pounds is so light that it might compromise thermal issues and therefore reliabilty. No proof, just an educated "gut feel" thing.

I would have no problem with a 10 pound amp that was uber reliable. Indeed, some weight seems like a good idea assuming you don't want your amp to slide off a cabinet.

How useful is 200 watts nowadays? I have the GK MB200 which does pretty good but my MB500 sounds so much better. @Al Kraft recommended I try out the MB500 with my cab and it had so much more punch than 2oo watts. I pretty much carry the MB200 as a spare backup.

Can someone comment on how loud they get?

I would only add that cab efficiency and number of drivers has a lot to do with how useful 200 Watts can be. On the other hand, having some clean headroom is always desirable IMO.

200 Watts RMS can be plenty. But 2 oo WRMS, not so much
