Hello,
Currently I'm trying to buy my first big bass amp.
I'm playing calm genre of metal. I would say it's something maybe like Timat.
I love Trace Elliot sound. I'm aiming to buy 4x10'' + 1x15'' cabs.

I found very cheap GP7 SM150 head. Will it be enough for rehersals with two cabs? Or should I look for more powerfull amp?

Thanks

Firstly the obligatory welcome to Talk Bass. :D

I would not buy two cabinets unless you intend to be very loud. Protect your hearing anyway!

For all it’s popularity, a 1x15 is not a great match for a 4x10. You can do a search on the pairing for more arguments both pro and con.

Trace seem to double the power for their model numbers. I have a GP7 300 which is actually 150W RMS. If this holds true your amp should have about 75W into 4Ω.

For my purposes it would only work as a practice amp. but I have my B15N for that duty. ;D

Everything he said and a big +1 on Welcome to TalkBass!

Thanks for reply.
I decided to buy two cabs after trying that setup. In my opinion it sounds best for my preferences.
I prefer to play on single 1x15'' cab more then on single 4x10'' cab but i'm afraid that i could have problems with break over drums and guitars in the band with only single 15''.

They said that amp produce 150W with 4ohms.

Kot, you did not fill out your location but by looking at BassChat I assume you are somewhere over the rainbow - (STOP IT PAUL!!!) - in Europe. :D

150W is not much power to gig with. My main amp, for example, is capable of 2000W output into all four of my Acme cabinets. 1000W as I use it with just the two that I normally take out. I feel that you’ll soon need more than that head will supply.

yours must have been messed with because every other 300 is a solid 300wRMS.

As soon as someone says metal I think you want at least a 250W version with a couple of cabs and earplugs. 150W will still make enough to deafen you with the two cabs but I doubt it would have the appropriate ''weight'' to it.

Maybe I should ask you different question. I'm very satisfied with sound from 4x10'' + 1x15'' cabs.
I can get GP7 SM150 for about $120. Should I give it a shot or is it doomed to failure and I should start looking for something more powerful?
