I just bought a TB-4P for travel. So far, I am really liking the feel and sound. About to go on my first week-long trip.

Anyway, I use flatwounds on my main MIJ Aerodyne and want to update strings on the new TB-4P.

I have read through the various threads and see some experiences (i.e. from flats slip on the tuning posts, use half-rounds, to no issues with flats if using lighter gauge).

Creating this thread for TB-4P strings (and restringing), specifically. Interested in your experiences and what, if any, flatwounds work great on it.

D'Addario ETB92 nylon tapewounds on mine - No troubles with slipping and they have been on 12mths.

Thanks for the responses thus far. Regarding the thread/wrapping around the strings near the ball end, do you just peel or burn it off before stringing? I ask, since the ball goes on the top of the neck and you, obviously, don't want the wrapping covering the strings over the first couple frets.

How are you liking the sound of your TB-4P now that you have had it a while? I am considering getting it... no other bass in the family... a few guitars but no bass. So one kid or another will likely play it in a real gig while parents stay at home and write music they want to actually enjoy playing together and also use the TB-4P. I considered an Aerodyne.. have a shoulder injury ... What do you think of the plug in the iphone aspect of traveler TB-4P?

@Cinnamon- I like the TB-4P. It is actually my backup travel bass for my MIJ Aerodyne (which I love). I don't play the TR-4P a ton, but it has gone on a few trips with me (no issues on planes). A few months ago, I was travelling for 2 weeks and was near some musician friends. I plugged the TB-4P into a small bass amp and thought it sounded pretty good. For personal practice, plugging my ipad into the aux and playing along through headphones works like a charm. I think you should get both the TB-4P AND an Aerodyne. ;)

I broke the E string on a set of LaBella LTF - the radius of the rollers that guide strings to the tuning posts was too tight.
Tried a set of Chromes instead, they work great. This bass sounds and plays fantastic.
I’m on my first trip with the tb-4p; removed the neck / left the strings on, and managed to cram it into a (very soft-sided) carry on. It’s in the overhead bin as I write this, fit with no issue at all.
They did have a look at it in security, apparently because of the battery. Bit of a hassle, had to re-pack it in a particular sequence to get it to fit. I’ll try to remember to remove the battery and put it somewhere accessible before my flight back.

Any more Flatwound recommendations? Dunlop silks are way too long at the nut. Not sure if regular labellas are more suitable than the string-through labellas, as the latter are designed to bend at the ball end where they don't need to on a TB.
