Traynor yba 200-2 pots

Hello all
I have a traynor 200-2 bass amp and I want to change the pots in it. I find them to loose. what value pots do i put in an amp?
The values that the designer intended them to be. If they are very loose feeling, most likely somebody cleaned the pots incorrectly or with the wrong material which has damaged the lubricant. There are more than one value, you need to determine which pots use what value. Otherwise, maybe this isn't a good project for you.

I bought the amp new 2 years ago and they were always loose. I have the ability to change out pots I have done it on all my basses my issue is that the only local music store had to order in 500k pots last time I redid a bass and this is my only amp. so to take t apart to find out what pots I need would put me without my amp for 2 weeks minimum but if I can order pots before I start the job I can do it in one night.

Have you looked inside the amp yet to see how it's built?

The pot style that is used here does not have a tight or damped bushing so the replacement pots will be the same. This amp is constructed VERY different than a bass... like the difference between changing sparkplugs on a lawnmower versus doing a lower end (ring & bearing) job on an over the road truck. You could easily end up with a non-working amp if you don't have the proper tools and experience. Look first before assuming it's like changing a pot in a bass.

That's just what the pots on the YBA-200-2 feel like. IME they don't move unless you turn them or want them to, so it isn't like they shake out of position during a show or anything like that.

It sounds like changing them out would be a massive undertaking. If they bother you that much, maybe a different amp would suit you better?

You should call Yorkville @ 1-905-837-8481 if you need to replace them. The service dept. staff are always willing to talk and you'll likely be speaking to the designer himself.
The pots are a little loose feeling but it's just the way they build them.
Good luck with the felts, hope it works for you and welcome to TB :)

I have a Traynor SB115. Completely love it. All of the pots on my amp have turn with little resistance (turned easily) since day 1 when new. They never wander or turn unless I physically adjust them. No scratchy sound while turning etc. No problems. It seems these are the pots that Traynor uses. I also would refrain from replacing them. I haven't looked inside but typically the pots are soldered directly onto the printed circuit board. These are hard to replace properly without doing inadvertent damage. (though not impossible to replace.) If it continues to bother you, try cutting a light foam in the shape of a washer and insert under the knobs to add a bit of friction as someone else has suggested. Personally, I would just leave it as is. I'm sure you have bigger fish to fry.
