Truss rod adjustment on 2014 American Standard P-bass

Truss rod needs a little adjustment me on my 2014 Fender American Standard P-bass. It’s got the little notch cutout in on the pickguard. Am I supposed to use a one of those octal tipped Allen wrenches or Just take the neck off the body and tighten it with a regular Allen? How do you guys do it?

I would say take the neck off if this your first time adjusting it. The curved tip on the Fender gadget is just horrible IMO.

The spheric end is only effective for a 5-10 degree deflection, more than that and you risk having the key slip and damage the nut, or even worse, break off in the nut.

Are the newer American fenders like my 2014 much like a Ric, where once they settle in the neck will stop moving? Mine didn’t move much the first 4 years I owned it.

That is individual neck behavior, it can't be consistently predicted.

I have the same bass and I’ve never had a problem using this tool to do an adjustment As already mentioned by others, you do need to keep the steep angle or it could pop.
