Hi all,

I was wondering, how do you break down Tubin into movements. Do you consider it 3 movements? or 4?

I have been thinking it was 4 movements just because the first page and the 2nd & 3rd are so different in color they might be separate movements.

How would you break it down?

The standard reference book Daniels Orchestral Music Online 4th edition has this information.

Tubin, Eduard 1905-1982
(b Alatskivi, nr Kallaste, 18 June 1905; d Stockholm, 17 Nov 1982). Estonian composer, active in Sweden

Concerto, Double Bass, ETW 22
2[1.2/pic] 2[1.2/Eh] 2[1.2/bcl] 2[1.2/cbn] — 4 3 3 1 — tmp+1 — hp — str
perc: sd

Movements:
1. Allegro con moto
2. Andante sostenuto
3. (attacca) Allegro non troppo, poco marciale

So Allegro con Moto and the Allegro Non Troppo (First and second page) you would consider the same movement? It wouldn't make sense to jump around...

Thanks for the response!

The first and second page are part of one movement. What do you mean by "jump around"? Most of us start at the beginning and play the music in order to the end. :)

I saw Allegro non Troppo as the Third movement, had a brain fart thinking there was some kind of strange order... Very cool! That answers that haha!

The double stops on the first page are one of my favorite things to play! The whole piece is absolutely amazing!

Reviving this 9 year old thread to ask, in 2024, how does one get a copy of the Tubin concerto? The Gehrman website seems to be down and my usual sources in the US (sheetmusic plus, string emporium, quantum, lemur, etc) don't seem to know anything about it. I think I probably know someone who can send me a copy, but if I could get one above board, I'd love to.

I contacted Gehrman via Facebook messenger and got a prompt reply that I can email them an order.
