I just saw that Quarry was canceled after 1 season.

How does a great series get cancelled while garbage keeps getting renewed?

Rogue - cancelled after 4 seasons.
Banshee - cancelled after 4 seasons.
Kingdom - 3rd and final season.
Low Winter Sun - cancelled after 1 season.

TV caters to the lowest common denominator.
That's where the ratings are.

Planet Earth. I watch that thing with my jaw nearly dropped the whole time. Yes, it's a documentary series. But it's great. I own the Blueray of the first run and will soon have it for the second installment.

My wife and I have literally sat and watched it while having a few beers on a Friday night when we don't get a sitter. We usually start flipping back and forth between that and a Red Sox game and then end up just watching Planet Earth. :D

I don't usually watch hospital drama shows; but, I really like Code Black about a hospital emergency room. It has been running for 2 seasons and 34 episodes and has some good actors and stories. For some reason, it has not caught on like some other shows have.

Planet Earth, Blue Planet, Frozen Planet...they're all pretty jaw-dropping.

Here's another you (and the rest of 'merica) haven't heard of ...Pitch.
My Bride & I (admittedly big baseball fans) loved it!
Cancelled after one season...10 pretty great episodes.
What a drag...

I can't complain. AFAIK the only show I watched last year that was cancelled was Timeless, but I hear it may get a spring slot so maybe that's changed. I'm afraid I've never heard of any of the OP's shows. Maybe their networks didn't advertise or market them well.

Stargate SGU. It was really good science fiction but it spent too much time building on a really interesting premise to give the masses the instant gratification they need to keep a show going.

Warehouse 13 was a good show imo. It was a touch campy at first but the actors really matured into their roles. Much like ST:TNG. That first season is almost laughably over acted. Cut to three years later and they were all on point.

Firefly is the watermark though. I still boggle at that one. It didn't even air all the shows already in the can. How the hell does that happen?

In the late 80s there was a show called Frank's Place with Tim Reid (perhaps best known as Venus Flytrap from WKRP in Cincinnati). It was about a guy from Boston who inherits his father's restaurant in New Orleans. Because of my schedule I rarely got to see it, but I thought it was great. It only lasted a season, though.
