I'm 6'2" and frankly if I have a gigbag on backpack style the headstock/neck will not clear doorways. So basically gigbags are worthless to me. What I did for a while was turn them upside down (headstock facing ground) but there wasn't padding there for my shoulders and it was uncomfortable.

Anyone make gigbags for tall bass players?

Never seen one- I imagine there's very little demand, and a lot of risk with the headstock much more likely to hit things.. I've known lots of players your height and above- they just duck :D I'm only 5'8" and still have to duck through most of the doorways around here with a bag on. If you don't want to carry it by the side handle through the doorway, the closest thing I can think of is the GigBlade, which hangs low on one shoulder.

What about a gig bag with a regular shoulder strap. Strap starts round just below the headstock and goes right to the bottom of the bag. Then you won't have the goofy backpack look with the neck way overhead. The top of the headstock will be about level or a little higher than your noggin.

it's too loose, might not clear the door sideways. best way is upside down, i can always ratchet the straps tight so the bass sits high and the headstock is a good foot off the ground.

The only thing with upside down is, there is more likely to be greater damage to your bass if you slip and
fall.

And there's a million things that are a foot off of the ground- I wouldn't want to go up a steep set of stairs with a bass like that.

a fender jazz is 47" long. if it sits at my shoulders that leaves about a foot and a half of room. i'd rather have clearance at the bottom than not have clearance at the top.

i'm guessing bigger guys 6'2" and above would have even more room. Stanley clarkes bass' would be snapp off at the base of the neck with his height going vertical through a doorway :)

Upside down is a good tip. I'll have to try it as I have the same issue.

I have a couple of foam wrap-around (fasten with velcro) pads for straps. If you added those to your straps it might do the trick. I am sure they cost less than a new case. I also have a couple of pads from old man bag straps that I could detach a strap from (if the end is detachable, which for me is the case) and slip over the strap ends. Those you might get for nothing if you put out a request on freecycle. If you were more local I'd send you a couple.

I once walked into a music shop, and the headstock clipped the door (luckily no damage) and the shop assistant laughed at how clumsy I was. So I pointed out that this meant no sale for them and laughing at customers was not a good plan and left. It was not cool of me to do so, but I was having a very frustrating day...

Why not get one that slings over one shoulder only.

Mentioned above, it still won't clear a door without paying attention to it. I want head in one hand cab on other bass on back and not to have to jostle it to fit in doors. I'm in New Orleans man the doors and architecture is centuries old it's tight quarters. It's not like brand new venues with massive load in doors.
