I have both an Upton Standard ply and an Upton Bohemian hybrid. Both great basses. (They are not in the same place - I play out of two locations 100 miles apart and commute weekly, and I ain't gonna take an upright with me every time I go back and forth!) The Upton Standard is without a doubt great for bluegrass. But no one's ever complained about the hybrid in that regard - I think only a real purist would. And the hybrid is more versatile if you currently or eventually want to play other styles, jazz for example. But, like I said ... both great.
