Pricier than Shens...but are upton plywoods good to go?

I have a shen SB80 here on rental, but am thinking of ponying up the cash for an Upton Plywood but not sure if it's worth the extra $$$.

All i can say is that i love mine and bought it sight unseen. With that said Shen's may also be a good buy but i have never played one. Upton's customer service has been great for whenever i have had questions.

One thing to note is setup out of the box. I'm not sure how Shen's tend to come when new, but my Upton was setup quite well and very easy to play right off the freight dock. That setup held up well over multiple years.

I have owned and played Christopher, Uptown, and Shen ply basses. If all are set up professionally I can't say that the costs between the three are justified. Does your rental program not let you have part of your rental fee go towards the purchase of the instrument?

initial rental fee does not apply towards purchase.

now that the rental period is up the fees im paying do apply towards purchase..

Uptons are slightly bigger in the neck size and upper rib size. I like that about them. I personally am team shen for now for sound reasons.

I second the first two sentences, totally in love with the Upton neck compared to my Shen 150. I’m totally team Upton for sound reasons though...but really, every piece of wood and everybody’s fingers sound different. You’re gonna be GTG with either as long as they’re setup properly.
