I happened to run into this bass at the Fairview Heights, Illinois GC. It is in great shape at a decent price too. The neck is pretty, figured ash, and the fingerboard is maple. I am unsure about the body wood. Although you probably cannot tell it from my video, the preamp on the Saratoga is quite subtle. You have to really crank it to get the Marcus Miller style tone that I love on an active Jazz. Compared to other active Jazz Basses, I am certain that this bass would be great at sounding passive with a bit of a boost. The salesman came during the video and I wrapped it up. This particular GC rarely gets really nice basses, so I did not try to film an eight or nine minute video. That kept me from featuring more laidback tones.

I believe you when you say the preamp is subtle! It’s a nice bass for someone who is brand oriented who wants to say that they own a MTD bass.

It’s always exciting when the GC has basses on hand that are not commonly seen at the GC. :)
