Using a pedal switcher with pedals that have multi-functions

I'm sure this is something that's either been discussed before or is a no brainer for most of you, but when using a pedal switcher to control pedals, in my case the Red Witch Factotum that has overdrive, octave control, or the ability to use them both together, I'm wanting to know how your normal, run of the mill switcher handles that? Is it a matter of having to press a button on the switcher multiple times or is there something else I'm unaware of?

The short answer is, they don't. Unless a multi-function pedal has external control capabilities (MIDI, footswitch inputs, etc.), then no switcher can do anything with it.

Further tho, I tended to cue up a sound I wanted on the pedal first,then engage the switcher. If the pedal was already on, then I do the switching there, and then managed the switcher for other loops separately. Lots of parts are either written to handle a transition, modified so it can be done live, or built up.
