Various Truss rod wrench sizes

Right. I'm getting ready to retire next year, and have been going through my toolbox upgrading / eliminating / refining the important stuff. I have a whole drawer full of hex wrenches. I'd like to refine that into high quality T wrenches of the appropriate size.

I've really upgraded my set-up "specialty" tools over the past fiver years.
A lot of it just depends on the brand / types of your basses.

I've found T wrenches (or even hex screwdrivers) aren't always the best tool due to the angle.
Often just a "standard" bent allen wrench seems to work best on a lot of basses.
(Home Depot usually has the Husky SAE & Metric bundle around Black Friday)

3/16" CABINET Screwdriver for vintage Fender Truss rod. (Ace or Amazon)
This works great on 95% + of Fender basses with the nut at the heel - without damaging the pickguard.

I really like the Wiha screwdrivers for the "fine" stuff; #1 philips and small slotted & hex for bridges, knobs, etc.
(and a bent round brass "feeler" gauge works better than any "ruler" for me. 5/64, 6/64 & 15/128 (right in-between 7/68 & 1/8, which works really well)
Brass round stock

Bought a Guitar multi tool sold by Cruz, think it's the 14 in 1 version. Has just about every thing you need and fits in a gig bag pocket.

For omissions or hard to reach stuff I've a workshop with a collection of tools bought/adapted/made over the last 45 years.

Highly recommend checking out the Cruz thing, well made, compact, affordable and versatile.

IME in 20 plus years building fixtures for machine tools, Bondhus makes the best hex tools. I keep a set of metric and standard in both ball end and regular L wrenches and then buy whatever T wrenches I might need for a particular application. All my new US Fenders came with a ball end T wrench for the truss rod, and one came with a mini set of L wrenches for all the other socket head hardware. Here’s a good deal on just about any size you might need.
