Verellen Meatsmoke 1400

Any Verellen Meatsmoke 1400 users here? If so please weigh in on your current preamp tube setup, just opened mine up for the first time after pulling it out of storage - there are 3 JJ's and the 4th tube (nearest to input) is unmarked.

I love the power this amp puts out, but have never liked the way the clean channel sounds (way too much highs/high mids) and figured I should inquire here.

A friend of mine had the same amp and had the same critique before selling it. Maybe try tungsols instead of the JJ's. I usually like those a bit more; seem warmerish or whatevers.

Post a pic of the unbranded tube. We can probably tell you were it came from just by the looks of it.

Thanks! This was the only pic I was able to get before I put it back together, not a very good view of the plates unfortunately.

The amp came through and looks sweeeeeeeet! Just the preamp tube did not.

Finally came through. Can you take a pic from the side of the tube? From the pic, it looks like an unbranded JJ, but a pic from the side would help a lot.

Will do, I have to take it out of the sleeve to pop the tube cover off - any chance anyone knows what each of the 4 preamp tube does for each channel - L-R?
