Double Bass Versatile Gut strings for jazz and classical???

I inherited a new “old bass” that sounds great! I’ve always been really interested in the gut string sound. I just recently got velvet garbos from a friend and they are unbowable and I’m not really digging the sound because it’s not versatile AND they aren’t gut strings. Any recommendations for great quality gut strings that are great for bowing and for jazz? Also, what is a comfortable height for them to not rattle on the fingerboard? Thanks in advance! I’m quite new to to the gut scene!

I suggest going to the Gut strings love fest. I know Garbos are considered bad for arco in general. The velvet animas are known for better arco, but you wouldn't fit in a section with them. I know a lot of people say Gamut strings are better for arco. But again, gut arco is its own sound. listen here:

Genssler basso. Absolutely great for ochestra in the right hands and IMO superb jazz strings.
They also last a lot longer than Eudoxas, sound better and hold tuning better.
Principal of Philharmonia plays these and sounds great.

I agree. SONORES BASSO by Gerold Genssler are the strings. Better than Olive and Eudoxa for me.
