Yesterday, kind of on a dare to myself I picked up this Maestro semi hollowbody. It plays well now that I've set it up. The pickups have no character. The actual bass is fantastic. Pickup suggestions anyone?
The whole pickup plus surround is 3 3/4 in x 1 1/2 in
actual pu is 2 1/2 in x 1 in
Thanks so much!!!

Nice looking bass! I have TV Jones Thunder'Trons in a hollowbody and really love em with flats, for what it's worth :)
Same experience here.
Funny, I was typing as you posted, I guess :)
TV Jones bass pickups are crazy underrated, IMO. I also have the blade pickups in another bass and love em!
And here.:D

So do I need anything extra or just the universal mount Tv Jones?
I think you should call or email them and see what they suggest. I think the TV Jones pickups should fit the existing mini-humbucker pickup ring, but you should probably double check first.

It'll be OK, if they are more a less a direct fit/replacement and . . . . . . the original installation left enough extra length for you to work with the pickup leads. The REAL job on 335-ish guitars is fishing the 4 pots and wiring harness through the f-holes.

If you're doing it yourself get some surgical tubing. Take the nuts and washers off the switch, pots, and jack. Carefully pull the entire wiring harness out of the f hole so you can remove the old pickups and wire the new ones. When you have to put it all back together push the surgical tubing through the holes in the body and out of the f hole. Push the ends of the surgical tubing over the shafts of the pots and switch and use it to pull everything back into place. It's a big pain in the neck but if you take your time you can do it.

Let's assume that the cheapest possible wiring scheme was used. In that case, while you are rewiring, you might add a nice stiff wire to create a sound ground btw the pots. This will add body to the arrangement and help keep the pots in their relative places as you work them back into the body.
