I’m looking for some guidance and opinions on the 70s Vintera jazz bass.

Right now I have an American pro Jazz bass that I love and a made-in-Mexico 2015 deluxe active jazz bass that I’m not the biggest fan of. It plays great but the sound is rough for me. The active pickups just don’t have the sound I’m looking for. Also dealing with intricacies of Active preamp and pickups.

I’m a jazz bass fiend and for a frame of reference, the MIM is currently tuned down to drop C and sits within in a pretty gnarly doom metal mix, two loud loud guitars, and an especially heavy-hitting drummer. Right now I’m sort of shooting for a queen of the Stone Age, Pallbearer, or Elder-esque bass tone. That is the same environment Vintera would be existing within. I feel like the environment in which the instrument lives is also part of the reason I feel like the MIM isn’t cutting it. The top boost can be helpful because there are a few spots where I have a bass solo, but I own a top boost pedal that would also help my high-end cut through when needed. Thus I feel the need for the active preamp and pickups is kind of useless. I prefer my mids and low end to cut through because of how shrill the guitars can be sometimes and I think that’s capable with my amp and cabinet setup I currently have.

I’m wondering if I should upgrade the MIM with a new control plate and some new pickups or if I should save that money and bite the bullet on a Vintera bass to take its place.
