Guys,
I was on a search for tuning machines with plastic knobs that would be a drop in fit for my Rogue VB100 Violin Bass. From the outset, I knew I didn't want to do any modifications that couldn't be undone. No drilling!!
I (went nuts during my search) and bought 4 sets of sets of tuners. I bought a gold set with white knobs on Ebay for about $30. I bought them for the knobs. Those knobs are on the bass in the headstock picture. The fit is very tight and I pressed them on with a "C-clamp". The other picture is of the other three sets I had bought.
1) The set on my headstock are the original Rogue tuning machines with the pearlized white knobs from a gold set - the 3rd - I bought on ebay. I'm currently trying to sell those tuners (on Ebay ofcourse) with gold knobs that I bought separately.
I believe the "knob change" to the white plastic from the original chrome ones - reduced some the Rogue's neck dive. Also, I prefer the look of them to the typical Violin bass "copy" clunky chrome knobs better, too.
2) The Klusons are a direct fit and were the 2nd set I bought. I may put these on a second Rogue VB100 that I have. I found them on Ebay and - coming from France - they cost about $45 - $50.
3) The set in the middle (in the picture) are some aftermarket brand I bought - the 4th - from a guy in the UK.There aren't any nuts or washers for that set. I'm going to try to find some at Home Depot. These were about $30 too, if I recall. I believe they are a direct fit, as well.
4) The set on the right are Hohner knobs from a Hohner EAB65 acoustic bass. This is the 1st set I bought. One of the tuners was damaged (the end was broken and the knob has a piece broken from it). I am trying to track another one down to replace it. After getting them on Ebay for about $30, I realized that the diameter of these is too large to fit the Rogue, anyway.

I am posting this info in case anyone is looking to replace those ugly tuners on a Violin Bass. Believe it or not, tracking these down took months of looking. Changing the knobs was part of the process of modding the Rogue to be more "Hofneresque". The mods are: a Hofner looking tailpiece, genuine Hofner strap buttons, pearloid white plastic tuner knobs, black truss rod cover and the control panel installed "upside down".
